In 2011, Martin Engineering Company was approached about providing civil engineering design and permitting services for a new synthetic turf football and baseball/softball complex on the campus of Sacred Heart-Griffin High School in Springfield.

MEC‘s first step was to obtain the topographic information. Many collaborative meetings took place between the owner, the design/builder, and us. MEC was tasked with designing sanitary sewer service for the thousands of people that would be attending football games. MEC also designed the sports field cross sections, drainage, stormwater detention, and site plans for the overall facility. The project went through the City of Springfield’s building permit process. The City of Springfield was particularly interested in the stormwater detention design as well as the parking. MEC was able to work with the city on the unique drainage characteristics of a synthetic field and obtain approval of the stormwater detention design. The city eventually concurred with the parking plan after MEC performed a parking plan/study which led the way to obtain a building permit.
